The Twenty-second Anniversary of the founding of the Institute

In search of what humanity lost, a history of human origination, and Korean culture
When Koreans and Asians were suffering from the pains of the 1997 IMF crisis, the Sangsaeng
Cultural Research Institute was established, thanks to passion of Ahn Gyeong-jeon, the Chairman
of the Board, to illuminate anew the spirit and culture of Korea and revive the glorious roots of Ko
-
rean history.
Korea and Koreans have the oldest and most glorious history and culture in the world. From an
-
cient times, they believed in the Samsin Sangjenim and enjoyed resplendence culture and practiced
ideals of Hong-ik In-gan, or widely benefitting humanity. The Hwan Dan Gogi, is an invaluable his
-
tory book recording a history of human origination, with notes, for example, “The nation founded
by the Hwan people was the most ancient of all states.” Also in the Samguk Yusa states, “In ancient
times, there existed Hwanguk (The Nation of Radiance).” The Baedal and Dangun Joseon Dynas
-
ties of the eras following Hwanguk are being confirmed as true historical eras and through various
artifacts and historical ruins, the ancient Korean culture, philosophy, and spirituality is being newly
revealed. It is most fortunate.
Despite of this, where does the Korean academia stand, especially concerning history? The histori
-
cal invasions by China and Japanese historical distortion deny the will of Korean ancestors and the
spirit of this nation is disappearing. Still following the colonial view of history, mainstream Korean
historians insist that Dangun Joseon is only a myth and Korean history is barely 2,000 years old.
The Institute always bear in mind its important mission of redressing Korean history, culture, and
society of which all are in crises. This mission should really be a goal of everyone in Korea. That is
because we have a duty to build and open the coming new world together. To achieve this mission,
we must restore our lost culture, tradition and thought. Further, we must go back to the place we
came from, search our roots and restore our fundaments. The Institute will be at the center of this
mission. On this twenty-second Anniversary, the Institute promises to restructure and revive itself
as a mature and future-oriented institution.
Sincerely, Researchers, Sangsaeng Cultural Research Institute
